Sony is working on a new P5 console, which will be styled after basketball superstar LeBron James
Sony has announced that it will release a new PlayStation 5 console cover and controller with designs created by NBA superstar LeBron James. The limited edition variants of the covers and controllers will be part of its newly announced PlayStation Playmaker program, which will spotlight “the most exciting creators, athletes, actors, artists, gamers, and entertainers”.
Sony has already announced the line-up of Playmakers for the program, which includes primarily sports personalities like LeBron James and BMX professional Nigel Sylvester as well as celebrities like comedian King Bach and country music star Jimmie Allen.
The new console has no definitive release date, but rumor says that it will be available to purchase in limited quantities sometime in 2023. LeBron James said that he hopes the design inspires “everyone who touches it”. In his blog post, he said:
“It’s still crazy to think a kid from Akron who grew up playing games is getting to create something like this. Designing a console cover and controller with PlayStation that gives a nod to my I Promise students and where we come from is a pretty cool thing. I hope it’s something that continues to inspire everyone who touches it, and that they have a little fun finding meaning in every detail”.
Inspiring design
the DualSense controller’s touchpad and the centre of the PS5 cover will show the slogan “Nothing is given, everything is earned”. Right handle will also have the phrases “Build, uplift”, “Chosen ones”, and “I promise”. It is reported that icons frequently associated with James will be featured on the controllers too.
